Introduction to Special Education
eLearning Course

The Department of Education & Early Development has developed web-based, interactive training courses for educators on special education topics.

The Introduction to Special Education eLearning course offers educators the opportunity to:

  • Define their role and responsibilities
  • Understand the procedural safeguards and protections provided by IDEA
  • Consider the purpose of the IEP and how to apply the IEP for individual students
  • Gain a general knowledge of the characteristics of children with disabilities
  • Learn to apply appropriate teaching strategies for children with special needs.

Introduction to Special Education for Paraprofessionals/Teachers includes four modules::

  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Understanding the Public Law
  • Disabilities
  • Additional Disability Categories

Registration - To register for an eLearning account please download and complete a registration form . Email completed registration form to elearning@eed.state.ak.us.

Course Credit - This four module eLearning course is available to Alaska School District Staff as a 3-credit course through Alaska Pacific University. Click here for course credit information.
