Mailing Lists

The files below are comma-delimited text files that can be downloaded and used to populate a database and/or create mailing labels. INSTRUCTIONS: How to put the text file into Excel.

These files represent the most recent data made available to the department by the districts and schools. If an entry is incorrect, please E-mail the webmaster and inform us of the error (please be specific). We will correct the problem immediately.

All Alaska Education Organizations

All Alaska School Districts

Alaska Private Schools

Please note that this does not reflect the entire Religious & Other Private Schools population for Alaska. This only reflects the schools that have sent in forms required for exempt status which is recognized by complying with AS 14.45.100 - 14.45.130

All Alaska Public Schools


All Public Schools with Enrollments

(PK = Pre-Kindergarten and KG = Kindergarten)

These are schools whose grades include, but are not limited to, the grade breakouts below:

INSTRUCTIONS:

Downloading Text File from Internet onto Your Computer

To download, click on the mailing list text file
Click on File
Click on Save Target As (IE) or Save Link As (Firefox)
Name and Enter file name _________.txt
Choose the directory where you want to save the list (make sure you remember where you put it)
Click OK
The list has now been downloaded (saved) to your computer.
Close out of the INTERNET.


CONVERTING A TEXT FILE TO MICROSOFT EXCEL

OPEN EXCEL
Click on File
Click on Open
Go to the directory where you put the list
Click on Files as type drop-down box arrow at the bottom of the window
Select Text Files (*.txt) or All Files (*.*)
Highlight the list name __________.txt
Click Open
[If you get a box that says Microsoft Excel can't load ----etc., click No]

Now, in the Text Import Wizard:
Choose Original Data Type: Delimited
Click Next
Choose Delimiters: Comma
Click Next
Choose Column Format: General
Click Finish


Formatting the Columns in Excel

You need to format the columns, so the data can be read.
Highlight all columns by clicking on Ctrl A on the keyboard
In the menu bar, select Format
Select Columns
Select AutoFit Selection
Un-highlight the spreadsheet by clicking anywhere in the spreadsheet.
In menu bar, click Save As
Click on Save as type drop-down box arrow
Select Microsoft Excel Workbook
Enter File Name ________.xls
Click OK.
The data is now available for you to use as your needs require.
